This month, we’ve got news about a new partnership that is providing life-saving medication at transit centers, a temporary policy change that allows federal employees to ride transit for free, and an update on our fast ferry service for the month of November.

Kitsap Transit will receive $2.9 million from the state to continue extra passenger-only ferry service on the Bremerton-Seattle route through the end of August 2026. Kitsap Transit’s Bremerton Fast Ferry will operate the extra sailings on weekdays, but not on Saturdays from October through April.

Kitsap Transit’s passenger-only ferries carried a record 1.22 million riders in 2024, 12% more than the previous year. Systemwide, Kitsap Transit’s ferry services maintained 99% reliability and 97% on-time performance in 2024.

A new prototype bike rack has been installed at the Bremerton Ferry Dock that can accommodate bicycles with fenders, electric bikes and bikes with larger tires.

Kitsap Transit will receive $1.2 million for the design of an all-electric, zero-emission fast ferry demonstration vessel and its shoreside charging infrastructure.

Last year, our ferry crews responded to an unprecedented number of significant safety events. We want to recognize 13 crew members who stepped up in these instances and helped resolve potentially dangerous situations.

M/V Solano, the 10th vessel in Kitsap Transit’s fleet, started operations on the Kingston-Seattle route earlier this month, a little over three years since the agency bought it from San Francisco Bay Ferry.
