Labor Day 2025: Use public transit to get to weekend events in Kitsap and beyond
Whether you’re traveling across the water to a convention, concert or football game, hiking the Cascades, or sticking around Kitsap to sample blackberry treats, there’s plenty to do over Labor Day weekend!
Taking transit is a great way to save money and avoid parking on your way to weekend fun. We’ve put together a guide with all the information on events, fares, and tools to help you get where you need to go.
Due to increased traffic over the holiday weekend, lines and wait times could be longer, so plan ahead and give yourself extra time to get where you’re going. Keep an eye on rider alerts, and please be patient with transit workers!
See our Rider Alerts page for details about Kitsap Transit bus service on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2. Use our interactive system map tool to locate Kitsap Transit bus and ferry services and schedules, as well as real-time arrivals when they’re operating.
Paying your fare
Don’t forget: Anyone 18 and under rides free!
The best way to pay your fare is with an ORCA card! Learn how to get a card and add value on ORCA’s website. If you have an Android phone, you can add an ORCA card to your Google Wallet and tap your phone to pay! Learn more here.

Bremerton Blackberry Festival
Bremerton’s annual celebration of the humble blackberry is back! Take a bus or local ferry to the Bremerton boardwalk and enjoy vendors, live music and a beer garden. Don’t forget the pickleball tournament!
The Greater Kitsap Chamber is also chartering Kitsap Transit’s historic ferry Carlisle II for trips between the Silverdale Waterfront and the Blackberry Festival in downtown Bremerton. This “Port to Port Pop-Up” is a charter, which means Kitsap Transit is operating it for a private party. Visit the Chamber’s website for more information.
Bumbershoot
One of the PNW’s longest-running festivals, Bumbershoot is home to a wide-ranging lineup of art, music, comedy, food, and more.
PAX West
PAX West – the annual convention that celebrates video games and gaming culture – takes over the Seattle Convention Center every year over Labor Day weekend. The event features panels, game demos, tournaments, an exhibitor hall, live music performances, and more.
Free events at Seattle Waterfront Park
Seattle’s waterfront is continuing to grow following the opening of Pier 58 in July. Friends of Waterfront Park’s event calendar is a great resource for free events happening over Labor Day weekend. Access via transit is as easy as getting on a ferry!
Take transit to the mountains with Trailhead Direct
King County Metro’s annual shuttle to the Cascades runs through Sept. 1, which means you’re in luck if you want to take transit to the mountains! Kitsap Transit’s fast ferries can get you to downtown Seattle, where you can connect to buses that will take you to Mount Si or the Issaquah Alps.
Trips to Mount Si leave from the bus stop at 16th Ave E & E Denny Way, which is accessible via King County Metro. Trips to the Issaquah Alps leave from the Mount Baker Transit Center, which is accessible via Sound Transit Link light rail.
UW Huskies home opener
Cheer on the Huskies as they take on Colorado State in the season opener! A boat (Kitsap Transit or WSF) and a train (Sound Transit light rail) will put you right on the doorstep of Husky Stadium.
