Headways Newsletter: August 2025
Welcome back to Headways!
Labor Day is upon us, and with it, a whole host of fun activities. We’re always encouraging folks to try transit, but this weekend presents an excellent opportunity to get out and ride a ferry, bus, train, or other mode of public transportation. To help you out, we’ve put together an overview of some of the big (and small!) events happening in Kitsap County and beyond.
While you’re here, read a quick update on our extended Bremerton fast ferry sailing schedule, notes on our Sept. 14 service change, and a cool feature about how KT’s mechanics are learning to safely repair our growing fleet of electric buses. Enjoy!

Labor Day 2025: Use public transit to get to weekend events in Kitsap and beyond
Whether you’re traveling across the water to a convention, concert or football game, hiking the Cascades, or sticking around Kitsap to sample blackberry treats, there’s plenty to do over Labor Day weekend!
Taking transit is a great way to save money and avoid parking on your way to weekend fun. We’ve put together a guide with all the information on events, fares, and tools to help you get where you need to go.
Extra weekday Bremerton fast ferry service extended through August 2026
In July, Kitsap Transit announced that it will receive $2.9 million from the state to continue extra passenger-only ferry service on the Bremerton-Seattle route through the end of August 2026. Kitsap Transit’s Bremerton Fast Ferry will operate the extra sailings on weekdays, but not on Saturdays from October through April.
The extension means Kitsap Transit can maintain the additional sailings to support the region during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Fall service change begins September 14
Kitsap Transit’s fall service change begins on Sunday, Sept. 14. Changes include new trips, adjustments to timepoints to improve connections, and adding or removing stops. Additionally, Kingston Ride will continue to operate on Saturdays after the Kingston Fast Ferry switches to its winter schedule.
KT partners with Olympic College on electrical theory training program for mechanics
Kitsap Transit is partnering with Olympic College to train our mechanics in the foundations of electrical theory—knowledge they’ll need to safely diagnose and repair KT’s growing electric fleet.
Fare policy change: No transfers accepted on Kitsap Fast Ferries starting Oct. 1
Starting on Oct. 1, 2025, Kitsap Fast Ferries will align its fare transfer policy with that of Washington State Ferries and no longer accept transfers or PugetPass on its Fast Ferries. The changes coincide with the full fare for trips departing Seattle increasing to $13.00. The $2.00 full fare for trips departing Bremerton, Kingston, or Southworth remains the same.
