Kitsap Transit is piloting a new fare-free shuttle service in downtown Bainbridge Island starting Saturday, June 13.
The new route, Route 385–BI Downtown, will operate a loop that starts and ends at the Bainbridge Island Transit Center, serving Winslow Way, Madison Avenue, High School Road, and Ferncliff Avenue. Riders can hop on and off as many times as they like throughout the day for free! The shuttle will operate from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturdays only through Sept. 12, except on July 4.
Route 385 is a loop route with a single bus that meets each Washington State Ferry. This means it will alternate directions each trip, and riders may need to cross the street on their return trip to catch the bus (you can use our KT Tracker to see the bus in real time when the service is operating). On Ferncliff Avenue and High School Road, riders can flag down and board the shuttle at any safe location.
The free shuttle connects residents of close-in neighborhoods to several popular stops, including grocery stores, retail, and restaurants on Winslow Way and High School Road, Kitsap Regional Library, the Bainbridge Pavilion, and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. For visitors, the free shuttle offers a quick lift to downtown Winslow or to the stop in front of the library, from which they can walk to the popular Pia the Peacekeeper, an 18-foot troll made from recycled wood in Sakai Park.
Riders can also connect with BI Ride timed stops to get to Coppertop Park or Bloedel Reserve (and return to the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal).
To view the schedule, visit the Route 385 webpage. Riders can also sign up to receive rider alerts for Route 385. The Route 385 pilot is funded by the City of Bainbridge Island, so keep an eye out for more publicity around this pilot as we get closer to its launch.
