Sunday bus service begins March 10 in Port Orchard, Silverdale and Poulsbo

Sunday service will begin in Port Orchard on March 10, 2024.

UPDATE: Kitsap Transit announced on February 27, 2024, that it is pausing the expansion of Sunday Bus Service. Please see this blog post for details.

Sunday bus service will begin in Port Orchard, Silverdale and Poulsbo on Sunday, March 10.

In September, we introduced Sunday bus service to Kitsap County for the first time in over a decade. Buses have been running on Sunday in Bremerton since Sept. 24. We planned to phase in Sunday service in other communities late last year, but a shortage of operators forced us to postpone plans.

Now, with operator recruitment ticking up, we are excited to announce that Port Orchard, Silverdale and Poulsbo will get Sunday bus service beginning on March 10. Our regularly scheduled Spring service change will go into effect a week earlier, on Monday, March 4.

Like Bremerton, we will operate two main “trunk” routes supported by on-demand buses in specific areas.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Route 8–Bethel will operate in South Kitsap every half-hour from 8:00 AM to 4:25 PM.

  • Route 332–Poulsbo/Silverdale will operate between the Silverdale Transit Center and North Viking Transit Center every hour from 8:30 AM to 4:25 PM.

  • On-Demand Sunday service will operate between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Passengers can schedule a ride using the Ride Pingo app anywhere within the service area (see maps below), and the vehicle can pick up or drop off other riders during your trip. You can also call 1-844-475-7433 to schedule a ride. Rides can be booked up to two hours in advance on Sundays.

  • On-Demand buses will also make scheduled stops in each service area. Visit kitsaptransit.com/Sunday for a full list of scheduled trips.

  • ACCESS service will be available within 3/4 of a mile of our fixed routes. The Port Orchard-Bremerton ferry operates from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Sundays.

Using On-Demand Service

Using an on-demand service is easy: Riders can either call ahead or use the Ride Pingo app to select a pick-up and drop-off location within the service area. You’ll receive an estimated arrival time for your bus and a ticket number. Because of the ticket number, you can book a ride for a family member or someone who may not have a smartphone; the rider gives the driver the ticket number when they step aboard the bus.

You can pay for your on-demand ride on the bus or in the app with a credit card.

One important note for Sunday on-demand riders: Passengers cannot book an On-Demand Ride if both their pickup and drop-off locations are within 1/4 mile of a trunk route. The Ride Pingo app will automatically calculate the distance to determine whether your trip request is eligible.
