Kitsap Transit participates in training exercises on ferry
A member of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Unit boards M/V Enetai from a helicopter.
From May 22-23, Kitsap Transit’s Marine Services staff participated in a series of joint training exercises on Kitsap Transit’s M/V Enetai – the first time our agency participated in such training with law enforcement.
In addition to our Marine Services crews, the exercises involved King County Sheriff’s Office and Seattle Police Department’s SWAT units; King County’s K9, Air and Marine units; Bainbridge Island Police Department; and Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Kitsap Transit staff worked with these agencies to simulate several different scenarios, specifically situations where a vessel is no longer under the crew's control. In one of the exercises, a helicopter dropped a line for law enforcement to get to the deck of the Enetai and deal with hostile forces on the vessel.
Law enforcement also conducted exercises with King County Water Taxi and Clipper Vacations’ vessels.
You can view a gallery of photos from the exercises below or watch our video. Kitsap Transit plans to participate in these exercises annually moving forward.
