Welcome to Headways

We’re delighted to launch Headways – our new blog and the source for Kitsap Transit news, information and projects.

Headways is produced by our marketing team, and it’s designed to inform the public about all the things Kitsap Transit is doing in the community as well as take you behind the scenes to learn more about who we are and how we work.

We think it’s important to share what we’re doing. As a public agency, Kitsap Transit relies on tax dollars and fares to fund our operations. Our goal is to make Headways an engaging, informative resource for Kitsap County residents to learn more about their public transportation system.

Speaking of which, I wanted to explain why we decided to call this new initiative Headways. A headway is the average amount of time between trips on a route in a public transit system – bus, ferry or otherwise. Shorter headways mean more frequent trips, helping more folks access transit at convenient times and reach their destination on time.

More broadly, headway also refers to forward motion, growth and progress. Kitsap Transit, along with Kitsap County, is growing. We have several exciting projects on the horizon to improve our services. We’re studying the feasibility of a fully electric fast ferry, working on reinstating Sunday service for the first time in more than a decade and engaging the community on a Long Range Transit Plan that will help guide our decisions over the next 20 years.

Headways is meant for everyone – we aim to appeal to both long-time transit riders and taxpayers who’ve never set foot on a Kitsap Transit bus or ferry. On the blog, you’ll find articles about exciting new projects, employees and rider stories, tips for traveling by transit, answers to rider questions, agency events and more.

The Headways blog will be updated frequently, while the Headways newsletter will be distributed via email every other month and include a roundup of new content. You can sign up for the newsletter here. Each newsletter will offer an important feature story and a few shorter items highlighting service changes, projects or other noteworthy happenings.

We’d love for you to check out the blog and share our content. We also hope you’ll send us your comments, questions and photos using the contact form on our website — click the “Contact” button in the navigation bar above). When sending us an email, please include in the subject line something like “Questions for Headways” or “Photo for Headways” so we can track and respond to your message in a timely way.

We hope you’ll find Headways interesting and informative. We consider the public our partners in this initiative, so let us know what you think. Thanks for reading!
