Help shape the future of fast ferry travel—join a public meeting on the Seattle Terminal Project
Two Kitsap Transit fast ferries approach Pier 50 in Seattle.
Last year, Kitsap Transit’s passenger-only ferries carried a record 1.22 million riders, 12% more than the previous year. Ridership on routes to downtown Seattle accounts for 70% of our total riders—a clear sign that demand for reliable, high-speed cross-sound service is on the rise. As more people choose fast ferries to commute and travel between Kitsap County and Seattle, we need infrastructure that keeps up with this growth.
The Seattle Fast Ferry Terminal Project would create a dedicated terminal in downtown Seattle to expand passenger-only ferry capacity and enhance cross-sound operations. The project aims to improve reliability and convenience, reduce operational constraints, and ensure we can continue to provide fast, dependable ferry service as ridership increases.
Upcoming public hearing and meetings
There will be multiple ways to provide your input on the project. The first is a public hearing before the Kitsap Transit Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 8:30 AM. You can submit comments for that hearing until 4:00 PM on Monday, July 14.
In addition to the public hearing, Kitsap Transit is hosting a series of public meetings during which we’ll provide an overview of the project and explain the environmental review process. You’ll also have the chance to comment on the project’s purpose and need statement and the topics to be evaluated in the environmental impact statement (EIS).
These meetings are a key part of the scoping phase of the environmental review process, providing an important opportunity for you to provide input during the public comment period (June 27-August 11).
You can find details about the public hearing, public meetings, and other ways to submit comments on our project webpage.
Your input is essential as we evaluate potential environmental impacts and determine how to best serve our riders and community!
