New Flex service in North Kitsap will begin with winter service change

Starting in December, Kitsap Transit will add new bus service in Kingston, Hansville, and other outlying areas of North Kitsap, and rename several services as part of our winter service change. We want you to try these services, so you can ride FREE in December.

Here’s what’s changing in North Kitsap:

  • Kingston Ride will be renamed NK Ride (or North Kitsap Ride). This is an On-Demand service that riders can book same-day trips on, either by calling a phone number or using the Ride Pingo app.

  • We are expanding the service area and hours of North Kitsap Ride by adding Hansville: The current Kingston Ride service area includes Downtown Kingston, George’s Corner/Kountry Korners, Gamblewood, Jefferson Point, Little Boston, and The Point Casino.

  • Kingston Ride currently operates from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday-Saturday. NK Ride will operate from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday-Saturday.

  • The Kingston Ride Fast Ferry Commuter will be renamed Kingston Fast Ferry Connector. This service, which operates from 4:30 AM to 8:00 PM with a mid-day break, is designed to connect with the Kingston Fast Ferry and requires a reservation by 4:00 PM at least a day in advance of travel. (The previous-day requirement also applies to the Southworth Fast Ferry Commuter, which will also be renamed Southworth Fast Ferry Connector.)

  • Kitsap Transit will add a new service, the Kingston Loop. This route is a flexible circulator that will loop around the Kingston area, as well as make a few trips each day to Indianola and Suquamish to serve time points and pick up customers within a quarter-mile of its route who have booked an on-demand ride. When traveling to Indianola and Suquamish, bus headsigns will read Kingston Loop+.

  • Our ACCESS paratransit service will expand its North Kitsap service area to include Jefferson Point, Little Boston, Eglon, and Hansville. ACCESS will serve the area from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday-Saturday.

Why is Kitsap Transit making these changes?

We’re making these changes to help improve the efficiency of our services in North Kitsap, expand same-day options for riders looking to connect to Kingston ferries, and simplify a system that could be confusing for new customers.

After the change, there will be three services operating in North Kitsap for the general public, each serving different needs:

  • NK Ride – For riders who want to book on-demand trips at different times of day.

  • Kingston Loop – For riders who need connections to key stops in Kingston or travel to Indianola or Suquamish.

  • Kingston Fast Ferry Connector – For fast ferry riders who want a pre-planned, predictable connection to the Kingston ferry terminal.

All of these bus services operate in our On-Demand/Dial-A-Ride category, which we’re renaming Flex — a more nimble term that captures the flexible routing of these services, which include BI Ride, SK Ride and Sunday On Demand.
