Headways Newsletter: April 2025

An ACCESS bus passes in front of cherry blossoms on Farragut Street in Bremerton.

Welcome back to Headways! It’s been a busy spring here at Kitsap Transit.

We’ve been working on several key customer information projects, including a new platform for rider alerts and a real-time bus tracker. Announcing and celebrating our 2024 Drivers of the Year is always a highlight of the first few months of the year for us, as is the return of summer fast ferry schedules, which will start May 3.

Rounding out this month’s newsletter is a data-driven deep dive on fast ferry rider alert response times and some information about a new study that will look at the feasibility of new intra-county ferry routes. Thanks for reading!

1. Kitsap Transit’s new bus tracker is live!

Track your bus in real time with our new tracker app! The app shows your bus's real-time location, crowdedness and estimated arrival time at the next few stops. Riders can also plan trips, view bus or ferry schedules, and find stops near their location.

2. Summer fast ferries return starting May 3

M/V Reliance approaches the Bremerton Ferry Dock.

Summer schedules are back! Starting May 3, riders can enjoy all-day Saturday service from Bremerton, Kingston and Southworth to Seattle (plus connecting bus service), and late-night local ferry service between Bremerton and Port Orchard.

3. Celebrating Kitsap Transit’s 2024 Drivers of the Year

Kitsap Transit Executive Director John Clauson (left) presents ACCESS Operator Danny Hoyt (center) with the 2024 Driver of the Year award on March 12.

Kitsap Transit honored our top Routed and ACCESS operators with Driver of the Year Awards on Wednesday, March 12, in recognition of their contributions to the public over the past year.

“Late again”: A deep dive on fast ferry rider alert response times

A rider looks at their phone as M/V Reliance prepares to dock in Seattle.

Kitsap Transit’s customers rate us highly for the accuracy, relevancy and clarity of our ferry rider alerts — but not so much for timeliness. We took a look the data behind why we often issue alerts after a vessel’s scheduled departure time.
