Silverdale Transit Center: Big changes coming to Central Kitsap bus routes this summer

In June, Kitsap Transit will open a new transit center on Ridgetop Boulevard in Silverdale. The new transit center – which has been almost ten years in the making – will provide much-needed capacity and passenger amenities over our current leased facility near The Trails at Silverdale shopping center.

The Silverdale Transit Center (STC) will feature covered waiting areas, accessible curbs and sidewalks, operator amenities like bathrooms and a break room, inductive charging for our growing fleet of electric buses, and a dedicated on-ramp for buses traveling onto Highway 303.

To coincide with STC’s opening, Kitsap Transit is making significant changes to our fixed routes in Central Kitsap. The proposed changes include adding two new local Silverdale routes, improving hours and frequency on some routes, redrawing route patterns to serve the new transit center, adding or moving bus stops and eliminating three routes.

Additionally, on June 16, Kitsap Transit will start Sunday bus service in Port Orchard, Silverdale and Poulsbo. We initially announced that the rollout of Sunday service in these communities would begin on March 10; those plans were paused to give us time to evaluate a ballot measure that would repeal the state Climate Commitment Act. After evaluating the potential impacts of the initiative, we will move forward with Phase 2 beginning June 16. See our news release for details.
