Construction time-lapse: Watch the making of the Silverdale Transit Center
The Silverdale Transit Center was constructed over 18 months and officially opened in June 2024.
It’s been more than two-and-a-half years since contractors started clearing and grading the site of Kitsap Transit’s new Silverdale Transit Center (STC) at the corner of Ridgetop Boulevard and Sid Uhnick Drive.
From that moment up until the transit center’s official opening in June 2024, Kitsap Transit’s marketing department documented the construction process, using a combination of digital cameras, GoPro cameras and a drone to capture progress at the site.
The result is nearly 40,000 images, edited into a time-lapse video that offers a start-to-finish look at the effort that went into building the new STC.
The video shows construction from January 2022 until February 2025, but STC was a project nearly 10 years in the making. Most of that time was spent acquiring the necessary parcels of land and realigning Sid Uhnick Road before construction began. Once started, the project took about 18 months to finish.
To capture construction progress, Kitsap Transit mounted weather-sealed GoPro cameras in two locations adjacent to the site. Cameras shot photos every 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the work being done. The cameras were kept charged via solar panels connected to battery packs.
For time-sensitive work (like pouring concrete or laying asphalt), we used a drone to capture aerial timelapses and hyperlapses. These photos were stitched together to produce a time-lapse that tells the story of the transit center’s construction.
Here are some key moments you’ll see in the video:
January 2023 – The construction site is cleared and graded.
May 2023 – The walls of the transit center’s main building are lifted into place by a crane.
July 2023 – Contractors spray a retaining wall with concrete, creating a unique pattern.
October 2023 – Contractors install the steel canopies that will eventually cover riders waiting for their buses.
December 2023 – Concrete is laid for the transit deck walkways and main bus loop.
March 2024 – STC is connected to southbound Highway 303 via an on-ramp.
April 2024 – Contractors install the canopy roof.
May 2024 – The on-ramp to Highway 303 is paved.
June 2024 – Landscaping and planting begin, and STC is officially opened to the public.
February 2025 – Final installation of the inductive charging units that will charge KT buses while they wait for passengers.
