For the first time in more than two decades, Seattle will host the Major League Baseball All-Star game this year at T-Mobile Park. To celebrate and support the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby, Kitsap Transit will go fare-free on its bus and ferry services on Monday, July 10, and Tuesday, July 11.

Kitsap Transit’s Board of Commissioners approved the fare-free days at their June 6 meeting. Riders can ride Routed, ACCESS, Dial-A-Ride, Local Foot Ferry and Kitsap Fast Ferries for free on those two days.

The festivities are expected to bring tens of thousands of fans to downtown Seattle between July 7 and 11. Waiving fares during the Home Run Derby (July 10) and All-Star Game (July 11) will encourage public transit use and awareness of Kitsap Transit services, Executive Director John Clauson told the board.

“We’re looking at what we can do to try and encourage folks to try and come back and use transit after the pandemic, and this might be an opportunity that would give a little bit of an incentive for folks to try us out,” Clauson said.

King County Metro, Sound Transit and the Seattle Department of Transportation Streetcar will also go fare-free July 10 and 11.

The “Midsummer Classic” has been held in a different city every year since 1933 and features a week of events including a home run derby and exhibition game between the top players in the MLB. Seattle last hosted the All-Star game in 2001.

Kitsap Transit’s fast ferries are a great way to get to Seattle fast. The vessels that travel our Bremerton-Seattle route have a maximum capacity of 118 passengers per sailing and can fill up quickly.
